Robocop's prime directive once involved kicking his own ass.

"KTHUD, KTHUD, KTHUD!" Hearing Robocop's powerful footsteps still reignites my interest in the badass cyborg, despite the years of progressivly awful films and television series. The toaster may be made of metal, but he's now battered, bruised, and a bit shredded around the edges. Poor thing. It's almost hard to believe the original film was nominated for two academy awards, for film editing and sound (which it won), and named the 14th greatest action movie of all time by Entertainment Weekly in 2007.
I didn't see Prime Directives when it came out in 2001. Actually, I didn't even know the series existed until a few nights ago. After watching a few episodes, I feel about the same towards the IP - indifferent, sprinkled with positive reminiscence of better times.
As far as I can tell (without forcing myself through the rest of the series), this clip (below) represents everything the show strains to offer.
"We don't negotiate, we detonate!" Considering the property's remained untouched since this low budget blunder, the fictional terrorist's words hold so much more meaning.
Straight from the Wikipedia page, here are a few embarrassing tidbits of info regarding the series:
- Footage from Robocop: The Series is used in various parts of Prime Directives . The MediaNet segments use footage from the TV show, which often features Richard Eden in the suit.
- Prime Directives was not permitted to use footage from the feature films. However, MGM had licensed shots of Murphy's death scene from the original ROBOCOP for the television show to use. The creators of Prime Directives took the footage that the TV show used, recoloured the shots blue, and used them in Resurrection.
- RoboCable's holster shots started out as RoboCop's holster shots. They were later colored black on computer and flipped for the other leg. Some RoboCop leg holster shots were in front of a greenscreen, and some were lifted straight from the TV series.
- During one take, 'RoboCable' slipped and dropped an Auto9 gun out of a window. They had to fly to Texas overnight and back to repair it. The gunhandler himself got on the plane and got there and back to the set for the next day.
- The DVD release of the series was packaged incorrectly with many cases containing copies of RoboCop 3 rather than Prime Directives.
Feeling a little dirty from the Prime Directive stank? Here, clean yourself with this song, courtesy of Kanye West - an obvious fan.
